Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 2 - 4 p.m. In keeping with Ernie's wishes, cremation has taken place. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family. Ernie loved to bake and could often be found in the kitchen working on a new cookie recipe, baking pies or making his butter tarts. Pat and Ernie traveled for many years to Barbados, Mexico and Hawaii before retiring to winters in Florida for 15 years. Ernie was as avid golfer and spent many years with Pat as a member of Oaklands, Willodell and Niagara Falls Golf Course. Ernie loved having the opportunity to work together with his two sons for many years. Ernie was a proud member of Local Union 666 (now Local 67) for 57 years and worked on many different projects around Niagara. Ernie married the love of his life Patricia Baker on Jat St. Ernie spent many years playing baseball & hockey locally and refereeing in later years. Ernie worked on the family farm in his early years before heading to Niagara Falls in 1950. The Meger family relocated to Selkirk, Manitoba in the late 1930's. Ernie was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on July 27th, 1934. Ernie is survived by his sisters-in-law Ann Meger, Alice Meger, Nancy Meger and many nieces and nephews. Ernie was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years Pat (2018), his son Wayne (2013), great grandson Joey (2000), his parents Eda (1985) and Albert (1972) and his seven brothers William (Bill), Elmer, Paul, Walter, Werner, Gord and Ed. Adored Great-Papa to Cole, Lucy and Annie Meger, Harper and Hunter McKay, Lily Meger, Brantly and Scotty Meade, Chuck and Harvey Meger, Ayden and Rhegan Longhurst, Ella and Lincoln Spittal and Leo Bureau. Amazing Papa to his grandchildren Jennifer Longhurst, Johnny (Margaret) Longhurst, Michele (Kevin Julie) Longhurst, Matthew (Stephanie) Meger, Adam (Rachel) Meger, Elizabeth Meger, Kevin (Brad Bureau) Gibson, Katy (Mike) Meade, Karen (Zac Milne) Meger, Christopher (Alaura) Spittal and Melissa (Brad) McKay. Cherished father of Lorna (John) Longhurst, Kelly (Lori Spittal) Meger, Marlene (Chris) Gibson and father-in-law of Cheryl (the late Wayne) Meger. Beloved husband of the late Pat Meger (2018). Passed away peacefully with family by his side in his 90th year on October 23rd, 2023.
